Taking a WaterRower to Saturn

I have been struggling to get enough exercise. I was bored with everything. It is too hot out. But last month, I unlocked the secret to becoming an obsessive exerciser: Pair my WaterRower with a VR headset and row through virtual worlds. Shiny!
WHY IT’S SHINY
Rowing is great exercise. It is both muscular and aerobic and works every major muscle group. Unlike the walking I was doing before I got mine, it can rack up some serious cardio and burn a couple hundred calories in 30 minutes. Getting to 30 minutes, though, can be a challenge since it is repetitive, like most machine workouts.
Put on the VR headset, though, and it becomes an adventure I can’t get enough of.
I subscribed to HOLOFIT by Holodia and downloaded the HOLOFIT app to my headset. Every day, I choose a destination, pair that destination with some music, and go on an adventure. Saturn is a favorite of mine. Antarctica is terrific on a hot day. Yesterday, I listened to the soundtrack to Jurassic Park while rowing through Primorida, which is a virtual park full of dinosaurs. Thrilling! Last week, I went to Paris.
Before I added the VR element, I was watching the clock after 15 minutes of rowing. Now, I have to stop myself at 45 minutes. I am having a blast. And I have no problem talking myself into getting onto the rower. There are places I want to go!
WHAT’S THE HITCH?
You need an exercise machine and Meta Quest VR headset, which is expensive if you don’t already have either. You don’t need a WaterRower, though I do highly recommend it. HOLOFIT will work with a bike, elliptical, or many types of rower.
You don’t strictly need your exercise machine to have a Bluetooth connection either. But I think you will enjoy it more if it does. There are aftermarket tools you can add to a machine without that connection. I have not tried those. My WaterRower has a simple Bluetooth connection, and that works great. The movement tracks perfectly with the boat — or spaceship — inside the virtual world.
HOW SHINY?

I am giving this experience five shiny orbs! I wish I had discovered this years ago. I’d be in much better shape.
